Master of Science in Computer Science
The Master of Science in Computer Science program provides a common base of knowledge of computer science in a core curriculum covering key aspects of algorithms, programming languages, architecture, and systems. Students can select from a range of electives, including concentrations in software engineering or computer security, enabling them to develop expertise in specific academic areas. Thesis and non-thesis options are available.
The Department of Computer Science considers qualified students for academic scholarships, making the recipients eligible for in-state tuition and for teaching and research assistantships.
Ph.D. in Computer Science
The Ph.D. in Computer Science program offers students the opportunity to pursue research in the principles and technologies of computer science. This program prepares students to conduct original research in a variety of areas in computing, such as computer security, cryptography, parallel and distributed computing, cloud computing, big data, networks, machine learning, computer vision, image processing, software engineering and testing, human computer interaction, game development, bioinformatics, operating systems, computer architectures, algorithms, programming languages, and compilers.
The Department of Computer Science typically awards support to qualified full-time Ph.D. students. These awards usually include a combination of teaching and research assistantships with a generous stipend and support for tuition and fees. Typically, full-time students who make satisfactory progress beyond the first year receive support from faculty grants and departmental graduate assistantships.
