Program Description:

At Pitt, we create teachers and philosophers of theatre. All of our graduate students teach a diverse range of courses ranging from performance to history, literature, and criticism, all with a focus on developing pedagogical skills. THEORY Our graduate students work on the cutting edge of theory. You'll work side-by-side with renowned scholars and acclaimed theatre professionals in a variety of workshops, seminars, and individual mentoring programs. PRACTICE Our graduate students combine their academic research with active theatre work, often in self-developed projects. Here at Pitt, we believe that true philosophers of theatre should study theatre within the cultural context of live productions. PRAXIS Resting at the confluence of theory and practice, the University of Pittsburgh Department of Theatre Arts graduate program unites academic work, creative productions, and ample opportunities for practical teaching, in order to create an integrated graduate experience.
