Master of Fine Arts in Socially Engaged Studio Art

This degree is concerned with the role of art in society. Our MFA program offers curriculum that encourage artists to think across disciplines about the critical issues that arise when conceptualizing, making, disseminating and documenting art today. Our conception of social-engagement is broad - while students may pursue focus on the intern al world of the artist for some projects, others may be concerned with the active collaboration of the artist within neighborhoods and organizations, and both converge in exciting ways that challenge one another. We see these experiences preparing the artist for a lifetime of growth and professional artistic practice, with all the pivots  and possibilities that entails. MFA students have found themselves teaching art in community settings and schools, participating in artist-run spaces and exhibiting widely in public spaces and exhibition venues alike.
