Program Description:
The emergency management specialization in the Master of Science (MS) in management program is designed for individuals who intend to assume greater management responsibility in helping communities reduce vulnerability to hazards and cope with disasters in both private and public settings. Students gain an essential understanding of the vision, mission, and principles of emergency management with an emphasis on leadership, management, use of technology, and cross-agency collaboration.
The curriculum covers emergency management-related research and management theories and their application, including the interpretation of hazard, vulnerability, and risk-related data and literature. Courses also explore the major principles of this cross-disciplinary field that integrates all activities necessary to build, sustain, and improve the ability to mitigate against, prepare for, respond to, and recover from threatened or actual natural disasters, acts of terrorism, or other man-made disasters.
