Doctor of Nursing Practice: Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (Post-BSN)
Liberty University’s online post-BSN Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) in Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) is designed to help meet the desperate need for mental health care providers in the United States and around the world. This program is ideal for licensed, registered nurses who hold a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and who wish to pursue a doctorate without completing a master’s degree. Students can develop the skills needed to address mental health disorders, substance abuse issues, and developmental problems in patients of all ages. Additionally, the post-BSN DNP in PMHNP can prepare students to sit for the American Nurses Credentialing Center Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner national certification exam and pursue state licensure as PMHNPs. Students will complete a mix of online courses and residential intensives so they can become fully equipped to treat patients who suffer from mental health problems. This program is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), which means Liberty’s DNP in PMHNP courses have met rigorous academic standards. Students who pursue this degree can train to work at the highest level of clinical nursing practice and provide psychiatric mental health support in a variety of inpatient and outpatient settings. Upon graduation, students can pursue roles in behavioral health clinics, correctional facilities, domestic violence shelters, general practitioners’ offices, hospitals, mental health agencies, private practices, residential treatment centers, and veteran psychiatric facilities.
