Program Description:

Campbellsville University’s online master’s of teaching in high school education is ideal for those who wish to enter a teaching career and already have a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field. With a curriculum that is rooted in Christian values, the program gives you the skills needed to apply effective teaching methods with students and help them prepare for college and the workforce. You’ll earn the required certification to teach your desired subject area while learning the fundamentals of teaching high school students and the current trends that are changing education.

Earning the high school education degree online gives you the opportunity to learn about the physical, cognitive and social-emotional development of children and adolescents, as well as a variety of instructional approaches, comprehensive curriculum tools and materials that help support student reading and writing. The program additionally explores the practical skills in student evaluation that are required for curriculum planning within the classroom and how to utilize those assessments.

You will also learn effective management skills, the research methods and procedures related to education and the usage of instructional technology as a hands-on aid for teaching and learning.

Choose from one of four tracks to help focus your degree:
•    English
•    Biology or Chemistry

•    Mathematics
A graduate practicum/seminar is required for the degree. The course gives you an opportunity to apply your best instructional practice in a field-based setting with cognitive coaching from colleagues. Students who are not currently working as teachers, including those taking the Option 6 route, must complete 16 weeks of student teaching in a high school classroom.

The program’s faculty incorporate their real-world experiences in the curriculum.
