Arts Administration

This 36-unit two-year MA program is part of Baruch's Weissman School of Arts and Sciences, in collaboration with the Zicklin School of Business and the School of Public Affairs. Our faculty members come from many fields: fine and performing arts, communication studies, accounting, management, organization theory, and institutional development. Students' work will include: A core curriculum focused on managing arts organizations of diverse sizes and types. Courses will review best practices from the non-profit and the commercial arts worlds and will aim to develop competency in finance, budgets, resource development, marketing, entertainment law, arts education and outreach, public policy, and advocacy. Electives that encourage students to deepen their knowledge of specific areas of interest, such as theatre and gallery management, artist representation, and museum education. Professional internships providing real-world experience and mentoring. A consultancy in the final semester with an arts organization, leading to a thesis published online for use by future students and by practitioners in the field. Underlying our commitment to these courses and experiences is a profound awareness of the difficulties facing arts organizations in this country and abroad: e.g. changing priorities in public and foundation funding; altered audience demographics; and cuts in publicly funded arts education at all levels.
