Program Description:
Counseling Programs: Community Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy, School Counseling, Substance Abuse Counseling. ULM is committed to graduating students who have a solid base of theoretical knowledge, strong clinical skills, and an appreciation of the scientist problem-solver approach to working with clients. The programs train Licensed Professional Counselors (LPCs) and licensed Marriage & Family Therapists (LMFTs) who practice in a wide variety of settings. All students enroll in a core curriculum:

• Legal & Ethical
• Human Development throughout the Lifespan

• Supervised Clinical Experiences
• Specialty Courses in Emphasis Areas
Graduate Assistantships
Graduate assistants are assigned to teaching, research, administrative, and professional activities. Stipends are awarded, and all few are waived, including out-of-state tuition. Graduate assistants are usually expected to render 12-20 hours of service each week. Application for assistantships should be made at the time of admission to the program.
Admission Requirements
Admission into each emphasis area is at the discretion of the Program Admissions Committee. In addition to meeting the general requirements for admission to the ULM Graduate School, the applicant must meet one of the following criteria:
• Minimum undergraduate GPA of 2.8 overall or on the last 60 hours
• Minimum combined score of 900 in the GRE (V+ Q)
• Total of 1900 points based upon the formula: 400 times undergraduate GPA plus the GRE score (V + Q)
