Program Description:

The MA Media and Cultural Studies is an innovative programme, combining media and cultural studies in an interdisciplinary way. Drawing on the methodologies of the humanities and the social sciences 'media communications' approach, this masters programme is distinct in its exploration of the 'cultural politics' aspect of media and cultural practices. It looks at: contemporary cultural and political issues - anti-globalisation and anti-capitalism advanced theoretical and methodological developments in cultural and media studies cultural theories such as Marxism and post-Marxism, feminism, psychoanalysis and post-colonialism media and cultural industries such as TV, film, print media, Indy media and the Internet debates on the formation of social and cultural identity, everyday life, public sphere and imagined communities The Masters in Media and Cultural Studies covers the material offered by traditional 'media studies' courses but it is also much more than that: it explores the critical, political and ethical engagement of the work conducted in media and cultural studies and offers opportunities to research, in-depth, a range of disciplines relating to media, culture and technology.
